SYML ‘Where’s My Love’ 21m, streams on Spotify & 5m views on Youtube
Over 21m streams on Spotify & almost 5m views for his heart-wrenching video for ‘WHERE’S MY LOVE’
“It’s a lush, subtle, and graceful piece of songwriting.” – ClashTranslated as “simple” in Welsh, SYML is the creation of Brian Fennell, a Seattle-native and founding member of the indie-rock band Barcelona. With a keen grasp on textural and emotive songwriting, Fennell combines piano, minimalist synth and string-scapes with ethereal vocals to take the listener on a journey through the senses.
The last year has been busy for Fennell that saw the release of his debut EP ‘Hurt For Me’ which features a song with Jenn Champion (formerly of slowcore heroes Carissa’s Wierd), and signing to Nettwerk (Passenger, The Veils, Angus and Julia Stone) by the end of 2016.
One of the standout tracks from the EP is ‘Where’s My Love’, an expertly crafted song featuring sparse productions and intimate songwriting. It’s all underpinned by Fennell’s powerful, yet delicate vocals that drift in on exposed raw pleas of longing to reconnect with a loved one. ‘Where’s My Love’ has impressively managed to clock up 21 million combined Spotify streams alone and gained fans from all over the world.
Clash premiered the new video for ‘Where’s My Love’ which you can watch here
Fennell explains in more detail how the video came about: “I met the videographer (Gavin Michael Booth), when I was working on a project in the Cayman Islands. After a few nights of unusually lite beer, we got to talk about our respective projects. He told me about a treatment he’d been wanting to use for a while and I instantly knew it would fit perfectly with Where’s My Love. I think the video turned out beautifully simple and incredibly sad, which is perfect for the song.”

Warsaw Radio release ‘Whispers’ on 27 October
Release their new single ‘WHISPERS’ On 27th October
2017 has been a busy year for Warsaw Radio. After the release of their much-praised (BBC 6 Music, RTÉ Radio) debut single ‘After Eve’ earlier in the Spring and UK and Ireland dates including a main stage slot at Beautiful Days Festival alongside The Levellers & The Waterboys, the group arrive with new single Whispers – a track showcasing the group’s unique sound foregrounded by singer-songwriter and musician Brian McNamara’s baritone vocals and violinist Nikki Bates’ rich string performances.
McNamara moved to Brighton from Limerick in 2013, and it is a small moment in time in the seaside resort town that sparked the creation of the new song. He explains: “Two friends, a guy and a girl were deep in chat about the guy’s relationship…. the girl kept repeating to the guy “She doesn’t want to be your bore…. just adored”…. from there the song was born”. An observant and attentive depiction of young love, each verse is carried by a sturdy rhythm section and descending melodic line before segueing into an almighty chorus in which McNamara passionately calls the song’s main lyrical refrain.
With an upcoming debut album with Mercury Award-nominated producer Jag Jago (The Maccabees, Florence + The Machine) and live gig dates this coming October, the future is looking bright for the heartfelt and powerful quintet.
Whispers will be released independently on 27th October, and will be available via Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming platforms. W.R will be announcing their 2018 Irish dates in the coming weeks.

Duke Special releases new album ‘Hallow’ and announces Irish Tour.
HALLOW
The new album from DUKE SPECIAL to be released on 6 October
in conjunction with his October IRISH TOUR kicking off on 11 October.
Commissioned by Strollers Touring Network
new dates just added in Belfast London and Dublin February 2018
The eminent Belfast poet Michael Longley was once described by his friend Seamus Heaney as ‘a keeper of the artistic estate, a custodian of griefs and wonders’. Duke Special’s new studio album Hallow is entirely based on the poetry of Longley, full of gentleness, honesty, mischief and love, and peppered with a cast of artists, animals, flowers, friends and long forgotten soldiers. As ever, Duke Special is mining a new seam of inspiration, always trying to get to the bottom of what it means to be human.
By nature Duke Special is a curious person. He is curious about theatre, books, music, poetry, art, love, life, redemption, death, 78RPM records and most recently, gardening! All of this is evidenced by his releases which are a map of his passions. These days recording a new album is a tricky enough endeavour and many artists are reliant on their fans to collaborate with them in order to make a new recording happen. Duke has been writing for the past year and has just recently started recording Hallow, but is now asking his fans to pre-order Hallow in order to fund the last bit of the process.
Duke has set up a website called Advocate (www.advocateduke.com) where fans can pre-order the album in their preferred format: CD, vinyl or digital download. There will be a limited run of exclusive signed and numbered CD and vinyl releases which are only available on pre-order.
Every pre-order on all formats will include a special ADVOCATE PASS which will give you access to exclusive content online through the Advocate website. This will range from behind-the-scenes videos of the recording process and video messages from Duke on how the album is progressing, to snippets of demos and exclusive previews of Hallow.
The website will be live and taking pre-orders from FRIDAY JULY 14th. Fans can then see the album performed live on Duke Special’s October tour. (Dates and venues below. Check venue websites for ticket details.)
Duke says, ‘I genuinely hope that these songs will speak to you, inspire, comfort, challenge, provoke, make you cry, make you smile, make you wonder and all the things that good art should do.’

Mundy announces ‘Jelly Legs 21’ Tour October 2017
Mundy announces ‘Jelly Legs 21’ Tour October 2017
‘Jelly Legs’ will be reissued on CD & vinyl on 29 September
On the 14th of October 1996, at the age of 21, Mundy released his debut album Jelly Legs on Epic Records. The critically acclaimed album launched the career of one of Ireland’s most beloved singer-songwriters. Jelly Legs also included the song ‘To You I Bestow’ which appeared on the soundtrack to ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Baz Luhrmann and sold over 11 million copies worldwide, introducing Mundy to an international audience.
2017 is the 21st anniversary of Jelly Legs and over the years the album has become a much-loved classic, achieving platinum status in Ireland. Sony Music Ireland will re-issue Jelly Legs on both CD & Vinyl on 29th September and Mundy has decided to mark the occasion and celebrate the album by reforming his old band with Steo Farrell (guitars), Cion O’Callaghan (drums) and Shane Fitzsimons (bass). Back in the 90s the band toured France, the UK and the States extensively, sharing bills with Van Morrison, Manic Street Preachers, Cast and Stereophonics. Now the guys are looking forward to playing together again, revisiting the hits ‘Pardon Me’, ‘Life’s a Cinch’, and the highly-requested song ‘Gin and Tonic Sky’.
Since the release of Jelly Legs in 1996, Mundy has released a further five studio albums and two live albums. His sophomore album 24 Star Hotel went multi-platinum, and songs ‘July’ and ‘Mexico’ are firm fan favourites. His version of ‘Galway Girl’ with Sharon Shannon was a number one hit, was the most downloaded song of 2007 and 2008 in Ireland, and has gone on to become the eighth highest selling single in Irish chart history.
Mundy has toured extensively in the US, Australia, and all over Europe, performing at prestigious venues like The Royal Albert Hall, and supporting legendary acts including Jimmy Webb, The White Stripes and Oasis. One of his career highlights was playing for Barack Obama, both on his Irish state visit and also in The White House.
Now Mundy is looking forward to getting back to his roots and celebrating the album that kick-started his career. The tour, entitled ‘Jelly Legs 21’, takes place in October and tickets are on sale now.

Three Songs, concert photography by Silvio Severino, The Vinyl Lounge, Cork
Three Songs
Concert photography by Silvio Severino
Exhibiting in The Vinyl Lounge, Golden Discs, 82 Patrick St. Cork
From Saturday 29th July
The Vinyl Lounge is pleased to announce a new exhibition of photography from Silvio Severino entitled ‘Three Songs’. The exhibition is comprised of Silvio’s recent concert photography and the title comes from the music industry edict that photographers should only ever stay for the first three songs of the gig, because after that the artists may look less than their camera-ready best! The exhibition opens on Saturday 29th July and runs for three months.
Silvio Severino was born in Brazil and is now proud to call the city of Cork his home. His work comprises analogue and digital photography, collage and gif animation. There are many recurring themes in his work from nature and urban landscapes, to consumerism and the idealisation of beauty and sexuality, from art versus capitalism, to the banality of publicity and celebrity.
Silvio is fascinated by the palpable energy at live gigs and the way the musicians onstage feed off the excitement of the audience. The photographs in ‘Three Songs’ capture these fleeting moments that encapsulate the relationship between the artist and their fans. Musicians included in the exhibition are as diverse as Prince, Stone Roses, The XX, The Script, Interpol, Future Islands, Dead Can Dance and many more.
“I’m delighted to display my concert photography in The Vinyl Lounge, my very first exhibition in Ireland and thrilled that it is in my adopted home of Cork” says Silvio.
The Vinyl Lounge is located on the second floor above Golden Discs at 82 St. Patrick’ s Street in one of the city’s most beautiful buildings which is steeped in art heritage having been a music store for over thirty years and a cinema prior to that. The Vinyl Lounge offers a selection of turntables, accessories and a well-stocked library of vinyl.
Since opening in April, The Vinyl Lounge has become a cultural hub and city centre haven for music fans of all ages, with comfy couches, free wifi, and art exhibitions. And it just got even better with a new coffee outlet from Dukes, a family-owned business which has been serving exceptional coffee and food to the people of Cork since 2005.

Beoga take to the stage with Ed Sheeran at Glastonbury!
Beoga take to the stage with Ed Sheeran at Glastonbury!
You’d think that after playing to over 150,000 people on the main stage at Glastonbury with Ed Sheeran, Beoga would be having a long lie-in this morning, but that’s not how they roll! In fact, it’s straight back to the studio for this hard working trad band from Antrim.
Beoga (Irish for ‘lively’) has been in existence for fifteen years, and in that time they’ve produced five critically acclaimed albums, were shortlisted for a Grammy, performed with the BBC Orchestra, and been presented with certificate of Congressional Recognition from the US House of Representatives. However their recent collaboration with Ed Sheeran has brought them to another level and a new audience.
Beoga co-wrote Sheeran’s massive hit ‘Galway Girl’, and they were featured on another track on his album Divide, ‘Nancy Mulligan’. This golden opportunity opened the door for them to collaborate with world renowned producers and musicians, and they are currently writing an album with Johnny McDaid of Snow Patrol and Foy Vance. Band member Eamon Murray says, ‘There will be features from household names that will surprise a few and challenge the perceptions of Irish music.’
Challenging perceptions is something that the band are very familiar with. Although Beoga’s sound is firmly rooted in the Irish traditional genre, they enjoy incorporating other elements, from bluesy riffs to Astor Piazzola-style jazz, and even a raunchy New Orleans jamboree vibe. The result has lead to accolades and awards, and caused The Wall Street Journal to refer to them as, ‘the most exciting new traditional band to emerge from Ireland this century.’
Their performance at Glastonbury is the first in a long list of festival appearances this summer, and they have just confirmed a gig in the National Concert Hall on 4th of October before they head off on a tour of Germany. Beoga will be announcing a release date for their album later this year. Keep an eye on their website for updates.
Beoga’s Irish dates include;
Sun 23 July Special Guest to Passenger at The Iveagh Gardens, Dublin
Sun 6 August Indiependence Festival, Cork
Sat 19 August Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann, Ennis, Clare
Wed 4 October National Concert Hall, Dublin

The Plea release new single & video for ‘Wild One’
Release new single
WILD ONE
Donegal band The Plea release their new single ‘Wild One’ on Friday 28th July. ‘Wild One’ is the first single to be taken from their upcoming album Propanoia which will be released in the autumn.‘Wild One’ is a melancholy acoustic ballad that explores the thoughts and memories that haunt a tortured soul. It was written by the band during a late night acoustic session in Donegal and they decided to record it on the spot. The rawness of the track inspired the band to write more songs for the album in the same vein; stripped back and simplified.
The video for ‘Wild One’ was directed by Michael McLaughlin of Disappear Here Media and shot in the band’s hometown, Ballyliffin in Co. Donegal, a part of the world that is renowned for its breathtaking scenery. Pollan Beach in Ballyliffin and Lagahurry Beach on the Isle of Doagh served as the locations, and lead singer Denny Doherty features, intercut with shots of windswept waves, salt spray and sandy dunes.
The Plea have already had much success with 2012’s release The Dreamer’s Stadium, which saw them receive TV and radio airplay from the likes of Graham Norton and Bob Harris, and plaudits from BBC and Q magazine. ‘Wild One’ is sure to be another radio hit for the band. The Plea will be announcing European tour dates and a release date for Propanoia in the coming weeks.

The Coronas release brand new album ‘Trust The Wire’ on 2nd June
Release new album ‘Trust The Wire’ on 2nd June, 2017.
THE CORONAS’ extraordinary new album may surprise their army of fans. A sonic leap on from its predecessors, Trust The Wire sees the award-winning, arena-conquering band fuse their arms-aloft melodic pop with lush electronics, spine-tingling atmospherics and a new-found sense of adventure. It’s released on their own label So Far So Good Records on 2nd June 2017.
From its tightrope-walking title, to the content of its lyrics to its bold production, Trust The Wire brims with self-belief. Written on the quartet’s return to their native Dublin after almost four years living in London, it captures the focus they found in leaving home, the fresh perspective it gave them and a soaring maturity in their songwriting.
A decade on from their debut, having toured the world, topped the charts and surpassed their teenage dreams, it’s no surprise that The Coronas are surer of their strengths and readier to take risks. Trust The Wire fizzes with ambition, often in ways you wouldn’t expect from a band famed for their sing-alongs.
After a rollercoaster three years, including a stint on a major label before deciding to do things their own way, spellbinding first single ‘We Couldn’t Fake It’ recounts the band’s realisation that they were right to trust their instincts, rather than be swayed by a label only seeking sales. The hypnotically-beautiful ‘Give Me A Minute’ is actually about Danny feeling antisocial after a gig, but sounds like a romantic statement of intent. Ditto the spectral ‘A Bit Withdrawn’, which is about misconceptions, but could be a plea to a lover.
The album’s title, taken from a line in the broody, dramatic closing track ‘Look At All The Lovers’, reflects the recurring theme of self-belief and sums up a band both acknowledging their achievements to date and stepping out of their comfort zone to tackle new challenges.
“Like a tightrope walker who doesn’t need to see the next step, they just know.” says Danny. “It’s about believing that what feels right will work and going for it. If you don’t trust your instincts, you’ll never move on. This is our fifth album. It would be easy for us to stick with a sound because it’s worked for us in the past. But that doesn’t excite us. Discovering what we’re capable of as a band, knowing that we can grow and get better is what makes us want to keep doing this.”
Trust The Wire was written last summer at a rented house in Dingle. “It’s a beautiful, isolated place where we’ve been going our whole lives,” says Danny. The band then returned to London and Notting Hill’s Eastcote Studios to record with producer Eliot James (Kaiser Chiefs, Two Door Cinema Club), with whom they made The Long Way.
Trust The Wire may mark the start of a new chapter in The Coronas’ career, but some of the hallmarks of the band’s previous albums remain, not least the glorious, soaring choruses and lyrics that lend themselves to being howled back. The album’s second single, ‘Real Feel’, is a rousing, festival-ready summer anthem, while ‘Gut Feeling’ is a piano-driven, sunshine-soaked ode to trusting your instincts. ‘I Have No Age’ is ‘70s-tinged electronic rock and the sweet, sparse Not What You Know returns The Coronas to their folky roots.
The Coronas will perform festival slots this summer at Sea Sessions, Live At The Marquee, Galway Arts Festival & Indiependence as well as their biggest ever headline show in The Royal Hospital at Kilmainham on July 1st, which is quickly heading for a sell out.
