New EP ‘Proximity Effect’ Out 11 July!

Earthship is a five-piece band based in the west of Ireland, formed in 2011 by bassist Karl Clews, keyboardist Mark Farrelly, guitarist Eoghan Judge and drummer Bart Kiely. Although heavily influenced at the outset by classic 70s jazz-funk and fusion artists, such as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Weather Report and Return To Forever, Earthship’s sound has evolved over the course of innumerable gigs throughout Ireland and Europe to become a unique fusion of funk-inflected dance grooves, fiery improvisation and memorable pop hooks, which sees them equally at home on the stages of the Cork Jazz Festival or grooving out in a field full of rock, pop and dance fans at festivals such as Electric Picnic and Body & Soul.

Their new EP – entitled ‘Proximity Effect’ – scheduled for release on 11 July 2014, will feature four brand new tracks and will showcase a subtle change in direction for the band: vocalist Paula Higgins moves to centre-stage, and the instrumental jazz-fusion pyrotechnics on which the band have built their reputation thus far, while still present, take a backseat in favour of more conventional pop/rock song structures. Lead single, ‘The Great Wheel’, a beautiful, chilled, slice of summery pop with sublime vocals, encapsulates this sea change perfectly.

The Irish trio of Brian Sillery, Luke Lacey, & Johnny Flood under the guise of Tell No Foxx are set to release their debut self- titled EP on July 4th.

Hailing from Wicklow Tell No Foxx’s music complements the expansive nature of their environment. Brian, Luke and Johnny started creating music together midway through university, experimenting with different soundscapes and drawing from a large diverse pool of influence.

Tell No Foxx use a wide pallet of electronic & natural drums, hollow synths; minimalistic guitar wrapped in meaningful lyrical textures, to create a sound that is both heartfelt and mysterious, glimpsing echoes of the 80’s infused with contemporary taste.

The band started working on their debut EP in January 2014. The EP is self-produced, recorded between their next-door neighbour’s studio and Luke’s laptop. Pete Meaghan engineered and co mixed the EP along with Luke.

Fox Jaw are on a quest to conquer Dublin and Limerick this June in conjunction with their new single release for ‘Hijack’ out Friday 30th May! They are a band that usually err on the side of darkness, but always keeping it sweet and melodic with an honest collection of dark pop songs. Formerly Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters, Fox Jaw are a band filled to the brim with new beginnings. Following the successful inaugural events in Dublin’s Liquor Rooms, Belfast, Dundalk, Cork and Wexford, Duke Special’s Gramophone Club has picked up some residencies around Ireland. The word is spreading and people are beginning to come down in their droves to the club nights so they can swing and dance to all the 78rpm records of bygone times!

Duke Special’s Gramophone Club is set to bring the time warp night back this May and June but this time there are prizes up for grabs for the best dressed! We strongly encourage you to look your vintage best so you’re in with a chance of picking up a prize for looking fabulous! And also so you don’t stick out like a sore thumb as everyone comes down dressed to the nines in their old stylish threads ready to swing, tap and jive to the sounds from the decadence of the 1920’s Jazz Age, the pure glamour of the 1930’s Dance Band Era and the nostalgia of the War Years, exciting Rhythm ‘n’ Blues, Jumpin’ Jive, exotic Latin and Calypso beats through to the Rock ‘n’ Roll explosion of the 1950s.

Duke Special’s Gramophone Club came about after a chance meeting with The Shellac Collective, a like-minded group of eccentrics who are passionate about 78rpm records from bygone times. Duke and the Shellacs started to appear at the same festivals and perform together on occasions. From here Duke decided to create the Irish arm of the Shellac Collective and so formed Duke Special’s Gramophone Club. Here he explains what it’s all about

Electronic duo Milky Chance will release what is already a YouTube sensation (30 million+ views) ‘Stolen Dance’, on 27^th June through Ignition Records. The duo hail fromKassel, Germany and their song writing began while still in high school.

Last summer Milky Chance released their self-produced debut album ‘Sadnecessary’ on their own label fuelled by sheer enthusiasm and youthful optimism. Within a few weeks, lead single ‘Stolen Dance’ had reached number one on Hype Machine and went on to achieve the number one spot in the iTunes charts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Belgium.

In the UK, Milky Chance have only released one single, ‘Down by the River’, which enjoyed strong support at BBC Radio One from DJ’s including Zane Lowe and Fearne Cotton, whilst reaching number 9 in the Shazam worldwide chart.

‘Stolen Dance’ mixes acoustic guitar and stripped back beats, turning the traditional love ballad on its head. Accompanying the single is the effortlessly cool, performance-led video that already boasts over 30 million views and shows no signs of stopping. The single is currently #5 on the European Airplay Chart.

Using only their own Facebook pages and their nascent label’s infrastructure for promotion, the band have recently sold out a run of 50 European dates, driving themselves across the continent with a set of decks and a couple of guitars.

MOJO GOGO WIN INDIE MUSIC WEEK!!!

After stellar performances at Limerick’s Indie Music Week, Mojo GoGo came out on top winning the Top Indie Band award, which was arranged as part of Limerick’s City of Culture celebrations. Mojo GoGo put in some mind blowing performances at Limerick’s Cobblestone Joes and Dolans over the weekend and quite rightly reigned as champions! So what does this all mean for the Donegal lads? Well, they will now be a headliner of 250 bands at INDIE WEEK CANADA between 15^th – 19^th October 2014. This is a terrific achievement for the band!

Hailing from Bray county Wicklow, Big September is a gang of indie rockers who burst onto the scene in early 2013 and have stamped their name firmly into the minds of many since their arrival. Five friends from school, who got together as a handy excuse to miss the odd class, certainly love to live the rock n roll lifestyle and have no qualms about it. This honesty breathes through the songs and especially the live performance.

Big September are set to release their brand new single ‘The Righteous Way’ on the 25th April taken from their highly anticipated debut album ‘Ballroom Addicts’ which is due for release on May 9th 2014. If ‘The Righteous Way’ is anything to go by you will certainly find yourself impatiently waiting for the arrival of the new album!

Front man, Scotty O’Neill, possesses charisma in abundance and has the ability to grab a crowd by the scruff of the neck, and shake them into submission without laying a finger on them. He is backed up by Dave Butler (guitar/vocals) who sings from the soul with a voice that could stand up in any band or musical era. Cillian Duane (lead guitar) is a blues boy through and through, with the classic unpredictability live, that stuns many an audience. The rhythm section is made up with Dan Smith, a pounding drummer who makes you feel you’re glad you’re not on the other end of the sticks, and Graham “Naylor” O’Neill on bass and main song writing duties who delivers anthem after anthem with clever lyrics and simple hooks. The chemistry and true gang mentality of this group is seldom found, but witnessing the force that is Big September displays how such a seldom find can be so successful.

The name Big September means a lot to the band as it is dedicated to a close friend who passed away in recent years. A friend who always believed in the lads and this in turn spurred them on to prove they’ve got what it takes. With their debut album “Ballroom Addicts” finished and ready to be unleashed, and an album launch booked with MCD in The Academy on Saturday 17th May, this is destined to be their year. They proved throughout 2013 that they can cut it on the live circuit playing all the major venues around the country with many sell out shows such as The Academy in December.
