Julie Feeney – releases Dear John from her groundbreaking album ‘Clocks’ on 7 February
Julie Feeney
Releases New Single ‘Dear John’ from the groundbreaking album ‘Clocks’
Available on iTunes on 7th February 2014
Julie Feeney is back with a new single ‘Dear John’ from her phenomenal album ‘Clocks’. This is Julie’s third album that she self-produced in November, 2012, and it went straight into the Independent Irish Album Charts at No. 1 and was voted ‘Best Album’ 2012 in The Irish Times ‘Album of the Year’ category for The Ticket Awards as voted by The Irish Times readers. The video for ‘Dear John’ premiered on USA Today after her sell-out 10 show run in New York City. The video matches the wide-eyed wonder of her art-pop song and if the song’s title foretells of sad things, the song itself is something altogether different, a vintage concoction of harpsichord, harp and strings. The video features Julie on a contraption call a Pedal Praxinoscope which is an interactive sculpture, designed by artist Emily Robyn Archer and technician Conor MacCauge, based on an early moving-image machine called the Praxinoscope and made from reclaimed bicycles, wood, mirror and vinyl.
Julie has had an amazing 2013, she released ‘Clocks’ in the US & UK to which it received critical acclaim including an 8/10 review in Uncut. Hailed by the New York Times as “charming, urbane and dreamy…theatrical on the shell, intricate at the core”, Julie’s sound is unquestionably original, rooted in classical whilst comfortably straddling pop and theatre. ‘Clocks’ was written in Ballinahinch Castle and Lough Inagh Cottages in Galway and recorded at Kylemore Abbey Gothic Church, a return to home ground for Julie. She has also performed to packed crowds this year at the Big House Festival & Westport Music & Arts Festival this summer and sold out a performance at the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
The short film ‘Stolen’ that Julie composed the music for won the Cork Film Festival and also the Indie Cork Film Festival. The short film was written by Yvonne Keane and was made by EPIC. Julie composed the original score and three of her songs are featured in it.
Her first composed opera ‘BIRD’ inspired by Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Happy Prince’ goes into full production in 2014 which Julie premiered at a sell-out concert performance at the Galway Arts Festival in 2013. The first developmental stage was shown in 2012 at Dublin Theatre Festival. It is a co-commission by Dublin Theatre Festival, Galway Arts Festival, Cork Midsummer Festival and Kilkenny Arts Festival.
Julie has tour dates ahead of her one of which is in Ballymaloe, Cork in April 2014 where she’ll return to the scene of where she shot a lot of the ‘Dear John’ video.

Eddi Reader new album ‘Vagabond’ releasing 7 February, 2014 & Irish Tour Announced.
EDDI READER
New album ‘Vagabond’ out February 7th, 2014
& Irish Tour Dates Announced
The new Eddi Reader album, Vagabondis released by Reveal Records on February 7th 2014. Recorded by Mark Freegard in Eddi’s hometown of Glasgow with a cast of well chosen musicians and friends eager to play their part in this, most captivating, deeply personal yet universal sounding album. Vagabond was produced by Eddi Reader and features many of her long-term musical collaborators including: John Douglas (Trashcan Sinatras), Alan Kelly, Ian Carr, Ewen Vernal, Roy Dodds (Fairground Attraction), John McCusker and Boo Hewerdine.
In Eddi’s own words –
“I have been on a journey with this set of recordings. Two years ago, I began writing and playing with ideas on John’s new piano. Well, I say “new” – it’s a second-hand, small Zender piano. I’d never heard of that make, but when we got it tuned, the fella said that they use this kind of piano to train the piano tuning students. Often, if they got bad marks, the saying goes that they had to ‘return to Zender’. After I kicked him out of my house for that terrible joke, I sat down and began falling for its sweet tone and I attempted to learn my way around it. The guys in the Edinburgh music shop who sold it to me told me that Tom Waits had been in the shop earlier and sat playing on it for a half hour then bought another one. Mr Waits was playing Edinburgh that night, so it seemed plausible. It’s a lovely piano nonetheless. It took me all the winter of that year to become acquainted with the idea that I was writing and that I should start recording. I did, but only the odd day here and there. 2012 was a wonderful and weird one. John and I got married on 8 June. With that we are both blissful, but in other things we were challenged. John developed an incurable illness and we were distracted by health issues and family troubles. I took a while to steady my feet about all of that. Then by the end of the year, I knew I needed to pull the fellas together and try recording live – if only to bring myself back to land. The good news is John is walking the road to recovery and will get better. No fear or doubt! Buíochas le Dia! The recording sessions progressed throughout January 2013, (it’s the best time to grab everyone as most are at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival) and they were amazing. We all squeezed into Mark Freegard’s Kyoti studio with Roy Dodds (drums) and Ewen Vernal (double bass) creating an engine for Boo Hewerdine’s steady rhythms (guitar) to steer through the songs with me (singing) sometimes playing guitar or piano, Ian Carr (guitar) soloing and Alan Kelly (accordion) floating in and out of everything. I recorded around 26 songs and had to choose 12 as 26 won’t fit on a CD. This new album was supposed to be 12 songs that flowed well together but I couldn’t bear to leave some off. So I got John to choose. When I protested he would say, “Those songs are on the next record”. We compromised on 14.”
Eddi grew up in Glasgow and Irvine, Scotland and it was in those towns that she learned to use music as a vehicle for communicating with others through busking and performing at the local folk clubs. In the early 1980s, Eddi travelled around Europe with circus and performance artists before moving to London where she quickly became a sought after session vocalist. She famously harmonised with Annie Lennox touring with the Eurythmics, after her time with successful punk outfit Gang of Four. It was short-lived but warmly remembered Fairground Attraction that really brought her into the limelight and to the attention of a much wider audience. The single “Perfect” and parent album First of a Million Kisses both topped the British charts.
However, it was her subsequent albums which signalled her increasing ability to assimilate different musical styles and make them all very much her own. Her unerring instinct for fine material, whether self penned, collaborative or a carefully chosen cover version resulted in Mirmama (1992), Eddi Reader (1994), Candyfloss & Medicine (1996), Angels & Electricity (1998), Simple Soul (2001).

All The Luck In The World’s video for ‘Never’ has amassed over 800K views, taken from their self-titled debut album releasing Jan 2014.
All The Luck In The World
Release their Self-Titled Debut Album January 2014
Lead track ‘Never’ has over 800,000 YouTube views &
Features on Trivago TV Advert which is set to roll out across Europe from January 1st!
All The Luck In The World are three 19-year-old extremely talented guys from County Wicklow, consisting of Neil Foot, Ben Connolly and Kelvin Barr who are currently students at the Brighton Institute Of Modern Music (BIMM). Neil founded the band in November 2011, with the intention of playing and writing music for their own enjoyment.
All The Luck In The World began to gain some unexpected attention when they created a small, home-recorded discography that they posted on YouTube. They began to attract a small but enthusiastic following that has continued to grow. Their song “Never” accompanied by some simple footage of a car journey grabbed the attention of many and it had reached an impressive 70,000 views without any promotion. The song is featured in the new TV advert for the hotel comparison website Trivago this year allowing for ATLITW to reach a larger audience giving it significant media exposure. Since the TV advert aired the video has gained over 800,000 views! The Trivago advert is set to roll out across Europe from the 1st of January 2014 so you can expect to see those video views to increase even more!
The songs of the three-piece band are often instrumentally sparse, reduced to the essentials, as conscious of tradition as they are contemporary. Young folk if you will, a new generation. Sometimes the band surges up behind the singer, electrified guitars, full brass sections, strings, and then again it becomes quiet and Neil’s voice is all that remains. Accompanied by the strumming of a lonely acoustic guitar a voice that laconically acknowledges that life can often be a drag, but that nevertheless celebrates the beauty of the whole world, awakens longings, and yes makes you a bit happy.
The band spent much of spring 2013 at Neil’s home in the quiet Wicklow countryside working hard on writing new material. German label, Barfilm Records, caught wind of ATLITW’s sound and offered the guys a chance to make a debut record. The trio were only thrilled at the offer and after agreeing a deal with Barfilm they started on the quest of creating their first ever album. During the summer the group spent two weeks recording in Denee, Belgium and another four weeks in Berlin recording and mixing. In November they went back into the studio in Rees-HArldern to give the album the final touch and to record two further songs.
After a busy summer and between recording sessions, the band came home to Ireland to rest and began preparations for performing and promoting the record. The album combines the core elements of All the Luck in the World’s signature homemade acoustic feel with larger instrumental arrangements, while maintaining the intimate feel listeners will be familiar with.
All The Luck In The World’s self-titled debut album is out digitally on the 1st January 2014 and physical copies will be available from the 31st of January 2014.
“We wrote this album with the same mindset that created All the Luck in the World two years ago. We enjoy what we have made, hopefully others will too.” – Neil Foot – All The Luck In The World

The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow takes to The Road
The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow takes to The Road
There’s a tendency for the word ‘unique’ to be bandied around a little too freely in music circles, but that is the only way to describe Jerry Fish’s genre bending style. A highly charismatic performer who refuses to countenance audiences having anything but a good time.
Jerry’s live shows have been known to transform sedate tux ‘n’ frock audiences into Roman galley slaves rowing their way through ‘The Hole In the Boat’, or ballroom-of-romancers slow-dancing to ‘Back To Before’, or swampy block parties gyrating to bacchanalian classics like ‘Celebrate’.
His music has been described as “Lounge Lizard Schmooze” and “Punk Latino” and his latest single ‘Barefoot $ Free’ has been compared to The Cramps, The Stooges and John Spencer Blues Explosion.
Now in cahoots with drummer Jeremy Hickey aka RSAG with a new sound and music collective Jerry Fish’s distinct love of circus, carnival and street theatre has bore fruit in the shape of The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow.
The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow was launched at this years Electric Picnic and was deemed by many to be the highlight of the festival.
Now Jerry is taking his Electric Sideshow on the road… So if you a looking for entertainment and something completely different. Don’t you dare miss this show!

The Carnival Brothers brand new single Carnival Station is out today!
The Carnival Brothers
Brand New Single ‘Carnival Station’
Out today!
https://soundcloud.com/thecarnivalbrothers/carnival-station
Following their hugely successful debut single ‘The Sun Is Gonna Shine’, The Carnival Brothers release their brand new single on Friday 1st of November.
This time round, The Brothers take it up a gear as they invite us to jump aboard an old steam train for a magical trip to a very special destination, a fantasy world where you’ll encounter the great artists and icons from yesteryear – Carnival Station.
As the steam rises and the wheels of this big old engine start to turn, you’ll hear the Porter shout “All Aboard” and then it’s time to Step Right Up for Carnival Station.
Enjoy the ride!
The Carnival Brothers are travelling pilgrims – four distinct characters that inhabit the space between light and dark, night and day, that other world where our brightest dreams and darkest fantasies meet. Lead singer Ger “Wolfman” Eaton has extraordinary vocal technique. Johnny “Vegas” is the joker in the pack, he plays guitar, mandolin, keys and every card trick known to man. The “face” of the band and a bona fide lady-killer, The Fox also plays bass. Binzer, the brother with rhythm pulsing through his fingertips keeps the beat on drums when it’s show time. And Bella a Go Go adds the burlesque glamour and sex appeal that keeps the boys in line, the punters lining up night after night and most importantly, the dealer’s eyes off the table.
The Carnival Brother’s music evokes all the nostalgia of yesteryear and will coax you into a world of pure joy and escapism.
New York Duo Ghost Beach release their first single ‘Miracle Bell’ in Ireland on 25 October
New York Duo
Ghost Beach
New Single ‘Miracle’ Out 25 October
Though only just over a year old, Ghost Beach, the New York based duo of Josh Ocean and Eric ‘Doc’ Mendesohn have already perfected a blend of retro yet futuristic, soaring synth-pop and Miracle the first single to be taken from their debut album, encapsulates that sound perfectly.
Ghost Beach are the latest indie-pop pioneers to set the internet ablaze, the band have consistently hit no.1 on Hype Machine with every track they’ve put online themselves. Their retro-future aesthetic sounds like the holy trifecta of The Police, Depeche Mode, and Daft Punk, with a little Passion Pit sprinkled on top for good measure.
The band have since signed to Nettwerk Records in the UK & Ireland, and have their debut album due in the new year. Ghost Beach write what could be killer indie-pop hits, yet stick to their DIY roots, creating a sound that the band describe as Tropical Grit Pop. One listen to Miracle proves just what a fitting description that is.
Miracle is out in Ireland on the 25th October. Listen to it here – https://soundcloud.com/nettwerkmusicgroup/ghost-beach-miracle-uk-radio
“ …One of the bands spearheading the feel-good summer charge is Brooklyn duo Ghost Beach, who serve up a delectable fusion of retro synth-laden beats interwoven with chic tropical beats” – Earmilk
“Ghost Beach are seductively good, with endless factors shaping their sound. In parts it sounds like synth-laden ’80s pop, and on others resembles a punk-rock vibe with lengthy guitar solos, like on single “First Time”. Their confused adolescent genre is a result of influences from the likes of Depeche Mode, Daft Punk and The Police. The American pairing are reminiscent of an early Hot Hot Heat, with a semi-fem vocal, unashamedly bathing in a pop bath – and I don’t mean the bubbles. They produced something that’s a lot more grown up. Saying that, they have the fun factor, the nonchalant attitude, and a contagious “let’s not stop partying until we throw up” glitter factor “ -Tim Osbourne (Obscure Sound)
Public Service Broadcasting, release single ‘Night Mail’, their debut album ‘Inform – Educate – Entertain’ and announce Irish dates.
Public Service Broadcasting
New Single ‘Night Mail’ Out 4 November
From Their Critically Acclaimed Debut Album Out 15 November
‘Inform – Educate – Entertain’
After a triumphant festival season which has seen Public Service Broadcasting playing to packed stages and tents across the UK, the duo return this Autumn with ‘Night Mail’, the stand-out track from their critically-acclaimed debut album ‘Inform – Educate – Entertain’.Their first long-player came in at #21 in the UK album chart in May 2013 and was nominated for Best Independent Album at AIM Awards 2013. Following this success the band are now planning a full release of the album in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland as well as adding Belfast and Dublin dates to their tour.
Public Service Broadcasting is the corduroy-clad brainchild of London-based J.Willgoose, Esq. who, along with his drumming companion, Wrigglesworth, is on a quest to inform, educate and entertain audiences around the globe.
The band burst onto the scene in May 2012 with their critically-acclaimed EP, The War Room, which has now sold over 17,000 copies and earned them many high profile supporters (Manic Street Preachers, New Order, Matt Horne & Ed Byrne amongst others). Over the past 18 months the band has risen from playing in the back room of pubs to selling out shows all over the UK.
PSB’s uniquely spell-binding live AV Transmissions see them weave samples from old public information films, archive footage and propaganda material around live drums, guitar, banjo and electronics as they teach the lessons of the past through the music of the future – beaming our past back at us through vintage TV sets and state of the art modern video projection devices.
The new single ‘Night Mail’ takes as its subject matter from the eponymous film of 1936, a pioneering documentary film produced by the General Post Office and the Royal Mail Group. Setting the original words of the documentary – including the much loved Night Mail poem – to a song that evokes the rhythm, speed and excitement of the railway in the era of the steam train, PSB breathe a new lease of life into a gem of a film.
This month PSB tour with Manic Street Preachers for a run of dates capping off a fantastic year for PSB which has seen them sail past 100 live transmissions, including support slots with New Order @ Jodrell Bank, The Rolling Stones @ Hyde Park and over 30 summer festivals including Glastonbury, Green Man, Festival No.6 and many more.

DUKE SPECIAL PRESENTS….THE SONGS OF HARRY NILSSON ON OCTOBER IRISH TOUR
DUKE SPECIAL PRESENTS….
THE SONGS OF HARRY NILSSON
Duke Special and friends present a night of songs written or made famous by this late, great American songwriter in Ireland this October
Duke Special returns to Ireland in October with a special run of shows where he performs the songs of the inspiring American singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson.
Nilsson was described as the ‘missing Beatle’ and John Lennon named him as his favourite American “band”. He achieved success on both sides of the Atlantic as a recording artist, song writer for hire and interpreter of other people’s songs and was one of the few major pop-rock recording artists of his era to achieve significant commercial success without ever performing many major public concerts or regularly touring. He was feted by, worked with or was friends with The Beatles, Phil Spector, The Monkees, Randy Newman, Glen Campbell, song-writer Jimmy Webb and many other stars of the day.
Nilsson is best known for his hit singles Everybody’s Talkin’ (1969), Without You (1971), and Coconut(1972). Nilsson also wrote the song One made famous by the rock band Three Dog Night.
He was awarded Grammys for two of his recordings; “Everybody’s Talkin’” won best male contemporary vocal in 1969, a prominent song in the film Midnight Cowboy and he won another Grammy for best male pop vocal in 1972 for “Without You.”
His music has been used in many films from Midnight Cowboy to Bridget Jones Diary to Reservoir Dogs and The Muppet Show to name but a few!
Duke explains why he was inspired to put this show together….
“Harry Nilsson is an artist whose music has always been on the periphery of my world. He is someone who I’d known as a song-writer and piano player and I knew some of his better known material, but I was excited by the thought of exploring his music properly. I love the learning curve of delving into another artist’s work and mining for hidden gems or forgotten treasures and finding myself absorbing and responding to all this music which is new to me or which echoes somewhere at the edges of my memory. As I immerse myself in his music and life, I’m sure I’ll discover many of the ups and downs which had an impact on his song-writing and talent. For the most part however, I want the concerts to be a showcase of Nilsson’s music and my hope is that the audience will hear many songs they are familiar with as well as being introduced to lesser known Nilsson. I’d love people to go away feeling satisfied, entertained and intrigued to go exploring Harry’s work for themselves.”
Duke will perform with a band, which will feature Paul Pilot (guitarist and producer on many Duke records) and hopefully some special guest singers, joining him for a night of celebration of inspirational song-writing.

Don Baker Releases new album ‘My Songs, My Friends’ on Friday 18 October
Don Baker
‘My Songs, My Friends’
IMPRESSIVE ARRAY OF GUESTS ON BAKER’S NEW ALBUM
Releasing on Friday 18th October, 2013
The new album by Irish singer, songwriter, guitarist and harmonica player Don Baker features guest appearances by an impressive array of Irish performers singing Baker’s own songs.
The album, entitled My Songs, My Friends, will be released on October 18, 2013, on Baker’s own label. The star-studded line-up includes Liam O Maonlai, Brian Kennedy, Gemma Hayes, Finbar Furey, Sinead O’Connor, Eleanor McEvoy, John Spillane, Mick Pyro, Clara Rose, Rob Strong, Pat Collins, Martin Furey, Paddy Casey and Declan O’Rourke. There are also three live bonus tracks recorded by Baker at The Olympia.
As Baker himself explains about the genesis of his album, “Normally I put a lot of thought into planning my albums, but My Songs, My Friends took on a life of its own, as if some spiritual force was guiding me through it. It actually started after I accidentally met the superb singer Clara Rose in a music shop. Having been much taken by her solo album I invited her to record one of my songs with me. Studio engineer Stuart Gray was so impressed with the result that he suggested I invite others in to sing my songs. One by one they all agreed, and it became a tremendously uplifting experience for me. That such talented people would give so generously of their time was an experience I’ll never forget”.
While Baker is already acknowledged as one of the top blues harmonica players in the world, another key feature of My Songs, My Friends is the quality of his guitar playing and the range and depth of his songwriting. ‘Politician’, featuring John Spillane, castigates our politicians, while there’s a suave gospel elegance to ‘Lord Have Mercy’, a duet by Eleanor McEvoy and Brian Kennedy. Sinead O’Connor is in vintage form on Baker’s ‘Cinderella’, while ‘Maureen’, sung by Baker himself, is a touching love song a la Mark Knopfler.
At the close of the upbeat ‘Little Rock’n’Roll Band’, Finbar Furey sings, “Come on, Don, write me one more song.” That sentiment superbly encapsulates the esteem in which Baker is held in by fans and musicians alike.
My Songs, My Friends will be released on Don’s own label on Friday 18 October
An Evening with Don Baker, Civic Theatre, Tallaght, Dublin on 29 September. More dates to be announced Shortly.
